Members of the Coalition of Social Service Providers have joined forces to strengthen the capacity of civil-society organisations and to develop the social-services system in the communities of Ternopil Oblast.
Within the project «Care Power 1325: building an inclusive social-protection system in the communities of Ternopil Oblast», on 8–9 October, the two-day training programme «Academy of Safety and Recovery» will be held in the city of Kremenets for leaders of civil-society organisations from Ternopil Oblast.
The project is implemented in partnership with members of the Coalition of Social Service Providers and other partner organisations. Its implementation involves NGO «Association of Women of Ukraine», the Ternopil Regional Military Administration, Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after V. Hnatiuk, the «1325. Ternopilshchyna» Coalition, the Coalition of Social Service Providers, and NGO «Dawn of Hope».
The project is implemented with the support of the Government of Canada within the project «Women. Peace. Security: from local to global», implemented by the Ukrainian Women's Fund.
What is the «Academy of Safety and Recovery»?
The programme is open to women-led civil-society organisations that seek to develop their activities towards the professional delivery of social services in their communities and that have experience in humanitarian response or in working with vulnerable populations.
Participants will gain practical knowledge and tools in the following areas:
- Leadership and civic participation — tools for influencing decision-making through consultative and advisory bodies and community-participation mechanisms;
- Legal legalisation — a step-by-step algorithm for obtaining the status of a social-service provider in accordance with Ukrainian legislation;
- Advocacy and fundraising — mechanisms of budget advocacy, resource mobilisation, financing opportunities through international donors, the State Fund for the Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities, and the social-procurement mechanism;
- Psycho-emotional support — practical techniques for preventing professional and emotional burnout while working with vulnerable populations;
- Success stories — meeting organisations that already successfully deliver social services in line with state standards, including NGO «Dawn of Hope», NGO «Association of Women of Ukraine», NGO «Bebiko», and the Ternopil Charitable Foundation «Caritas».
From training to practical change
An important part of the programme will be follow-up mentoring. After completing the training, each participating organisation will receive 2 hours of individual work with experts to align its statutory documents and prepare a package of documents for entry into the official Register of Social Service Providers.
In this way, participants will receive not only new knowledge but also practical support for developing their organisations and moving to the professional level of social-service provision.
Bringing together the efforts of social-service providers, civic organisations, authorities, and educational institutions is an opportunity to jointly strengthen the system of social protection in communities. It is especially important to create conditions in which women leaders can develop their organisations, influence decisions, and professionally provide social services to those who need them. — Chair of the Board of NGO «Association of Women of Ukraine» Larysa Rymar, Member of the Board of the Coalition of Social Service Providers and Project Manager
